Zakatek Mosque Hydroponics Program

Turning wudhu water into fresh food, local jobs, and long-term dignity for mosque communities.

Why Hydroponics at Mosques?

Many mosques sit at the centre of communities that face rising food prices, water stress, and youth unemployment. The imams and mosque committees already know which families are struggling, who is trustworthy, and where support is most urgent.

At the same time, hundreds of litres of clean wudhu water flow into the drains every day. With a simple capture and filtration system, that water can be reused to grow food in compact hydroponic beds that fit into courtyards and rooftops.

The result is a small but powerful shift. Instead of a one-time food parcel, the mosque becomes a hub that grows fresh produce, creates local income, and restores dignity for the families it serves.
