Turn potential into livelihood
Fund a business
Every penny goes directly to opening a real business for a family in need, giving them a livelihood they own and control.
Create sustainable impact
As each business grows, recovered funds flow forward to the next family. From a single contribution, multiple businesses can be funded.
Keep charities going
A small portion of recovered funds keeps our partner charity organizations running, so they can keep finding families who need a chance.

Umm Firdaus' Vegetable Stall
Umm Firdaus, a mother of 8 waited 25 years for a chance to build something of her own. She had the space, the drive, and the experience, she just needed help getting started. Our community gave her exactly that: a vegetable stall outside her home and a steady, honest income for her family.
The cycle
How the fund works
One donation. Multiple businesses. The chain doesn't stop.
1. You contribute
Your monthly or weekly contribution goes into a global pool.
2. A business gets funded
100% *(minus Square and wire transfer fees) opens an enterprise for a struggling family. Zakatek and a charity partner cover administrative costs.
3. Seed fund recovered
60% or more recovered funds feed back into the pool. The rest keeps Zakatek and our charity partners running.
4. Next family gets their turn
Another family gets the same opportunity. A business of their own, funded and supported from the ground up.

Questions worth asking
Why this model?
Aid dependency is a decades-old structural problem, not a new one. Billions in external funding have cycled through Sub-Saharan Africa without producing self-sustaining local economies. Our model treats the root cause: instead of consumable donations, we fund productive assets that generate income, recover capital, and repeat. A sprinkle of innovation in how we think about charity can compound into lasting change.
Why does Zakatek work through charity organisations?
Local charity organisations have something no amount of external funding can quickly replicate: community trust, contextual knowledge, and accountability to the people they serve. They know which families are ready, which proposals are viable, and how to follow through on the ground. We provide the capital and the platform; they provide the proximity. Teamwork makes the dream work!
How do we know the money is actually being used well?
Every project on Zakatek has a public budget published before a single penny is spent. Receipts are posted as they happen. Every month we publish a compiled ledger of all financial transactions. Our transparency section on this page covers exactly how we keep you in the loop — always.
